Horsford Announces USDA Expansion Of Broadband Access For Nevada Rural Communities

Statement

Date: Nov. 7, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) released the following statement in support of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) decision to award funding for 14 projects to bring broadband to underserved rural communities, including communities in Nevada:

"I am pleased that Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has announced funding for critical broadband projects in rural communities, totaling $20.3 million across seven states. These vital projects will bring broadband service to underserved rural communities, creating jobs and providing rural residents better access to education, health care, and social services.

"Tomorrow, I am holding a small business forum that will focus on increasing access to capital and finding contracting opportunities for rural-based companies. This is a welcome announcement as access to broadband is also critical for small businesses in rural communities.

"One of the awards includes $442,468 for the Arizona Nevada Tower Corporation to provide broadband services to rural areas in Nevada, which will increase educational opportunities and strengthen economic development. Far too many rural communities in Nevada have limited access to broadband and this project is an important step toward increasing access to broadband service at a reasonable price."
